My fishing hobby starts when I was a child. There is a river just right in front of my grandfather's house. I used to go down to the river to bath with my brothers & sisters accompanied by my late grandfather. My cousins and I were always talk about fishing even though i never fish when i was a kid. Therefore, one day, during rainy season my cousin & I made our own fishing rod & fish at the river.. We never cought any fish!!!
It was all started up again when i was studying at PPP ITM. I had a couple of friends who loves to fish very much. Plus that having a bike was an advantage to be an angler because the fishing place was quite far and no public transport could reach there. This is where I learn the fishing skills like to tie up the knots & hooks. We went out almost every weekend especially friday night and back in the morning the next day. Among the places that we went quite a lot was the Pulau Indah Bridge, western part of Port Klang. The biggest fish i cought was the ikan Keli about 1/2 a metres long. The Baung fish and snapper were among the normal type I usually catch. I use the earth worms sold along the street before the Pulau Indah bridge.
From there on, I went to so many other places to fish such as Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. I won't miss any opportunity to do so if there's any trip and even everytime i went back to my father's hometown in Sabak Bernam. I always have my fishing rod at the back of my car hood.
In Melbourne, I started fishing when there is a group of malaysian & singaporean who wanted to start up this fishing group. We went out to the open sea of Port Philips bay headed by Amir, who was the ex Marine Police. He was the one initiated the fishing trip. We cought a lot of snappers but they were all small ones & we have to release them according to Victorian Fishing authority.
Recently a new fishing club has been formed under the Malaysia Hall Club. They are called KEMANDESIA (Short form of Kelab Memancing Dewan Malaysia). I planned a fishing trip at the Port Philips Bay at the cost of $60 per head. Before the trip, my hallian friends and I went out fishing at the St Kilda pier. There, I cought the first legal size fish in Melboune.
